Rock legend Neil Young has announced he will not be performing at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, citing concerns that the event, now partnered with the BBC, is “under corporate control.”
The 79-year-old Canadian musician shared the news on his website, expressing disappointment as he and his band, the Chrome Hearts, had been looking forward to playing at the iconic festival. “Glastonbury is one of my all-time favourite outdoor gigs,” he wrote, confirming he will no longer appear at Worthy Farm this June.
Young, who headlined Glastonbury in 2009, explained his decision: “We were told that the BBC, now a partner in Glastonbury, wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in. It seems Glastonbury is no longer the event I remember—it’s now under corporate control.”
