US actress Michelle Trachtenberg, renowned for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, has died at the age of 39.

The New York Police Department confirmed her death to the PA news agency in a statement on Wednesday.

Officers responded to an emergency call at approximately 8am on Wednesday at One Columbus Place in New York, where Trachtenberg was later pronounced dead after emergency medical services attended the scene.
