Actor Val Kilmer, known for his roles in some of the biggest films of the 1980s and 90s, including Top Gun and Batman Forever, has passed away at the age of 65.

Kilmer also portrayed Jim Morrison in the 1991 biopic The Doors and starred in Tombstone and Heat.

His daughter, Mercedes, told US media that he died of pneumonia on Tuesday in Los Angeles. She added that he had been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 but later recovered.
